Coding Deep Dive: Moving from blocks to text
In this hands-on workshop, attendees learn about block coding resources and will start building projects in a powerful, industry standard language, Python, right away, regardless of past experience. They will use the Codesters free sandbox environment and drag-to-text toolkit to start building programs right away. From there, attendees will work through a project-based lesson developed with the “Use-Modify-Create” learning progression framework in mind. Attendees will practice assessment strategies and specific protocols that can help them manage and support in a blended-learning classroom.

Making and Coding with the Circuit Playground Express
The Circuit Playground Express is a great low-floor, high-ceiling device for coding and making experiences. Total novices can be coding lights and sounds that respond to inputs in under an hour. More advanced users and makers can create projects that control motors and LEDs, and they can easily switch from the blocks-based coding environment to JavaScript. We'll look at examples and then play with the MakeCode environment and simulator. MakeCode is web-based, so there is nothing to download and all devices work with it.
